INDIANAPOLIS (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Indiana Department of Health has limited who is eligible to get rapid COVID-19 tests.
Demand is high and supply short for rapid tests said the Indiana health department, so, until further notice, the state is only offering the rapid antigen test to people age 18 and under and people age 50 and over who have COVID-19 symptoms.
A statement from the Indiana Department of Health reads: “This change is necessary due to the national shortage of rapid antigen tests and is designed to help ensure that students can stay in school and those who are most likely to need a monoclonal antibody are identified within the prescribed window in which they can be administered."
Lines have been long at testing sites in Northwest Indiana.
The wait for walk-ins at one last week was four hours.
The state said PCR tests, which are processed in a lab, will continue to be offered at all testing sites.
