CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After two incidents involving troopers this week - almost an hour apart - Illinois State Police are reminding drivers to move over for emergency vehicles.
State police said Tuesday around 11:45 p.m., a squad car in the far-right lane of the southbound Kennedy at Addison was hit by a black Mazda. Police said the trooper had emergency lights on while working a crash.
Neither the trooper nor the driver Jessica Allen, 32 of Chicago was hurt. The next violation was just over an hour later on I-270 near St. Louis...also with a squad car with its lights on.
State Police said a semi tractor trailer almost hit a trooper, who jumped out of the way and only suffered minor scrapes. Drivers in both cases were ticketed. Fines are at least $250 and can go as high as $10,000 for drivers who fail to slow down and move over.
