CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Four years ago, Jessica Gutierrez forced Ald. Ariel Reboyras (30th) into a runoff and lost by the slimmest of margins.

Now, Gutierrez has launched a new campaign despite no longer residing in the 30th Ward. No, she didn’t move. Gutierrez said she was remapped out of the ward by one block. She believes it was intentional.

Nonetheless, the law states Gutierrez can run in the 30th Ward. Gutierrez said she’ll move if she wins.

Gutierrez, the daughter of former Congressman Luis Gutierrez, said she's been working and organizing in the district and has proven herself.

There is also talk that Reboyras may not run again. But, so far, no confirmation from the alderman.

“Is it a hard job? Of course it is. But if you’re not up for it, that’s exactly what you should do — you should step down,” Jessica Gutierrez said. “There’s a new generation who’s energetic and who’s ready to organize, to be out there, to bring our community together, to unify.”

Much has been made of the fact that she’s former Congressman Luis Gutierrez’ daughter, and Jessica Gutierrez said she's fiercely loyal to him — as a father.

As a 34-year-old woman and community organizer, though, she's fiercely independent.
