(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago alders were set to vote Friday on a measure that would allow ShotSpotter to be retained in some wards.
Mayor Johnson decided earlier this year to phase out the controversial gunshot-detection system by fall, but some alders have said they want the technology to remain in their communities.
Critics have said ShotSpotter doesn't offset violent crime and can actually lead to some communities being over-policed.
Johnson said Chicago cannot take an a la carte approach to ShotSpotter. He said there are other approaches that could achieve the same goals that Chicago sought with the system.
