(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Joliet police say there's no evidence of foul play in Des Plaines River deaths, but some family members are skeptical.

At a public safety forum in Joliet, city officials addressed the numerous cases in the last several years of people who have gone missing and later found dead in the Des Plaines River. At least 15 bodies have been found in the River since 2020.

Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans provided an update on these deaths

"So far, our investigation has not uncovered any evidence to support the belief that these deaths have resulted from any act of foul play. While there are similarities in the locations the victims were found, the circumstances surrounding every death vary significantly"

But Jewell Robinson, mother of 37-year-old Robert Long, whose body was found in the river in April, says she doesn't believe this.

"My son ain’t jump in no water. My son was pushed in that water.”

She says she is crying out for help.

"Some fences, some cameras, some detectives to really look into these cases."

Robinson said she hasn’t heard back from detectives and she hasn’t yet received the toxicology report on his death either.

Chief Evans says there are eight cameras strategically placed on the riverfront, with another four cameras expected to be installed soon.
