(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Lake County Sheriff's K-9 Dax was the force behind another successful mission early Sunday morning.

Authorities said Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at a Beach Park motel on Sheridan Road just south of Wadsworth Road at about 1:45 a.m. following reports of a fight.

When deputies arrived, the sheriff’s office said 31-year-old Ricardo Perez, of Mundelein, jumped out of a second-floor window and fled the scene.

Officials said deputies formed a perimeter. Deputy John Forlenza and K-9 Dax were called to the scene, and Dax was able to track Perez to a dumpster in a nearby parking lot. Perez, a parolee, was armed with a pistol, according to a Lake County Sheriff news release.

After Perez refused to surrender, Dax bit him, and he was taken into custody. Perez was transported to an area hospital for the dog bite, as well as an injury he suffered after jumping from the motel window, officials said.

Perez now faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and resisting arrest.
