CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With their coloring books and tablets in hand, dozens of children walked into the Kane Vax Hub in west suburban Batavia on Wednesday.
It was the first day the vaccination site offered appointments for those ages 5 to 11 to receive the smaller, pediatric dose of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.
Six-year-old Sylvie Stevens was one of the first in line.
“I got my COVID shot!” she exclaimed. “It was a little scary but it was also pretty fun.”
Eight-year-old Vance Huffman was equally eager to get his first dose of the vaccine.
“Because then I can finally do stuff that I’ve been waiting for,” he said.
Huffman’s mother, Tina, told WBBM Newsradio she was standing by to make an appointment for her youngest at the mass vaccination site as soon as it was available.
“He has some asthma issues, so we’ve always been really nervous about him getting COVID so to know that he’s going to have the vaccine and just have that extra barrier, it just means the world,” said Huffman.
The clinic, located at 501 N. Randall Street, is open Wednesdays from 1-5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
Appointments for the week of Nov. 10 are already fully booked, but officials with the Kane County Health Department said more slots will be added weekly.
Appointments can be made at KaneVax.org.
