CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx is declining to do any more debates with her Republican challenger.

Kim Foxx has accused rival Pat O’Brien of what her campaign calls “Trump-like name calling and fear mongering”...and she’s not going to share a stage with the Republican.

O’Brien said it’s a disservice to the voters.

He said she’s opting to rely on the fact that she’s a Democrat in a Democratic county, and the voters deserve to hear from them both at the same time.

A spokesman for his campaign told the Tribune, “Foxx doesn’t want to debate O’Brien, because he has successfully and publicly exposed her failures when it comes to prosecuting violent crime and her role in the Jussie Smollett case.”

Foxx’ spokesperson Alex Sims said O’Brien called Foxx a “cheerleader of criminals” and a “social worker” in an interview with the Daily Herald.

That’s why, Sims said, Foxx has decided to pull out of next month’s debate hosted by ABC 7 and several other groups.

Though Foxx has declined to debate O’Brien on ABC 7, she will still participate in an interview with the TV station, Sims said.

There is no word yet on whether Foxx will participate in another debate scheduled with WTTW on Oct. 26.

The candidates have already debated each other before the Chicago Sun-Times, the Daily Herald, and the Chicago Tribune.
