(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Owners of a Lake Zurich bridal shop say they're ready to stand in if needed, after David's Bridal announced it's filing for bankruptcy and making major layoffs.
Susanne and Chad Dershaw have some experience helping frazzled brides-to-be when competitors have closed or encountered problems.
Chad Dershaw said they're ready to step up again if needed.
"We've definitely felt some supply chain disruptions in the world in the past two years, with Covid and the situation in Ukraine, that we've been able to help get dresses," Chad Dershaw said.
The couple took over Volle's Bridal in December 2018 from the family that had run it for decades.
In the post-pandemic world, Susanne says some brides-to-be are planning further ahead than the typical 12 months.
"We had somebody who has a wedding in 2025. That's a little more rare," noted Susanne Dershaw.
They're seeing a continuous surge in weddings, with couples getting married on Fridays and Sundays as well as during non-traditional months because of competition for venues.
Clothing retailers continue to close their shops but she said many brides still want the in-person experience of trying on wedding dresses in front of family and friends.
