Lane Tech pitcher receives taste of pro-ball in overseas tournament

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Chicago Public School baseball player gained some international experience last month pitching for the Pakistani National Team.

Throwing against Japan and Palestine in the Asian Baseball Championship in Taiwan was an amazing experience, Lane Tech senior Amaan Khan said.

“[The best competition in world, you get to face players from all different countries ranging from all different professional leagues,” Khan said

Khan said he’ll never forget it.

“They were on their feet the entire game, cheering you on. They’re always talking. They’re always engaged in the game. They like to have fun,” said Khan.

The Tigers had mixed success at the series in Taiwan but he said it was great to meet other athletes.

“I was able to talk to every team out there and their players through Google Translate, we’d have to translate stuff, but some guys spoke English,” Khan recalled.

That exposure inspired Khan, who at 18 is seen as the future of the Pakistan Tigers. to keep working.

“Whether that’s training harder…but just to be able to see what these professional baseball players really do day in and day out is what inspires me to continue to work now,” Khan said.

He hopes to improve his fastball, which is currently 93 mph and will pitch for Lane Tech this spring.

Khan has committed to Lenoir-Rhyne University in North Carolina.
