(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — There will be no more new late-night liquor licenses in Chicago’s sprawling First Ward.

The City Council has approved an ordinance backed by Ald. Daniel LaSpata that bans any new 4 a.m. licenses.

The First Ward runs roughly from Fulton Market Northwest to Logan Square on the West side of the Kennedy Expressway. It includes parts of West Town, Bucktown, Wicker Park, Humboldt Park and Ukrainian Village.

Existing bars with 4 a.m. licenses are not impacted.

This follows years of complaints about violence, noise and mischief.

Seven wards, downtown, on the North Side and South Side now have bans on new late-night liquor licenses.
