(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Kane County officials say they're concerned that some first-responders may be reluctant to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Jarett Sanchez, who chairs the committee of the Kane County Board that oversees the county health department, says about half of the police officers in the county either didn't sign up or declined offers to get vaccinated.
He says he's heard a similar margin of the county's firefighters, especially younger ones, are not getting the vaccine.
Sanchez says he hopes as more people are vaccinated, others will agree to get their shots.
Illinois is in phase 1B of vaccine distribution, making anyone 65 or older or anyone with a frontline, essential job are eligible. Supply of vaccine does not meet demand.
