CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lightfoot seems to be amused that Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara, who resigned from the force, said his plan is to now run for mayor.
Mayor Lightfoot is certainly not quivering in fear of FOP President John Catanzara’s threat to try to unseat her. In fact, the thought of a race against the controversially outspoken union leader seemed to make her smile.
"It would be a gift," Lightfoot said as a reporter questioned her.

"In all seriousness, it would be a gift," Lightfoot said.
Reporter: If he would run?
"Let him run. I would have a lot of fun with that," Lightfoot said.
Facing possible dismissal from the Chicago Police Department, FOP President John Catanzara abruptly announced Monday that he plans to retire and run for mayor. On Tuesday, he filed paperwork to retire.
“I’m running against the mayor to change this damn city and the direction it’s on,” he told reporters Monday. “Because she is literally not steering it into an iceberg, she is literally telling them full steam ahead. So something’s gotta change and apparently nobody else seems too concerned about it, so we’ll see where we go from here.”
Catanzara previously teased a mayoral campaign in a YouTube video last month, flashing a poster that signaled his intention to run in 2023.
