Local church distributing ashes to Chicagoans 'on the go'

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A multi-denominational Christian church in Chicago will distribute ashes this afternoon for those in the city who are out and about.

Christians around the world recognize today as Ash Wednesday. The day marks the beginning of the Lenten season, a period of time in which Christians make spiritual preparations for Easter.

Chicago’s Urban Village Church has organized several Ash Wednesday street blessings throughout the city and in west suburban River Forest. Observers of the holy day are invited to participate at the following locations:

Edgewater, from noon to 1 p.m.: Rewired Pizza, 1100 W. Thorndale 

River Forest, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Will be drive-by ashes, 7970 Lake St. River Forest  

Wicker Park, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Division Blue Line Station 

Logan Square, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Logan Square Blue Line Station 

Edgewater, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Bryn Mawr Red Line Station
