CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago area has had its first taste of winter and road crews are prepared for more.
If there is an issue with snow, it's expected that visibility would be more of a concern on the roads than accumulation.
While the pavement is not cold enough for snow to stick, Chicago Department of Transportation, Illinois Department of Transportation, Indiana Department of Transportation and the Illinois Toll Highway Authority are all keeping an eye out for potential issues.
Paul Wappel, Public Information Officer for IDOT, emphasized that whatever snowfall occurs, it will not stick to the pavement.
"Pavement temperatures are pretty good, so that's a plus for motorists. We are ready and there certainly may be some spotty areas especially on bridge decks and ramps."
No major problems are expected from the first wintry weekend of the season.
"We will have crews out throughout the weekend monitoring conditions to check for icy spots. We don't really expect accumulation in any storms this weekend," said Dan Rozek, Communications Manager for the state Toll Highway Authority.
