WHEATON, Ill. (WBBM Newsradio) – A Lombard man was ordered held without pretrial release after authorities say he attacked multiple DuPage County sheriff’s deputies during a court appearance, sending three to the hospital.
Prosecutors said 27-year-old Avinash Panjwani was in court Friday for a previously scheduled case when he left the courtroom without permission. Deputies attempted to stop him, sparking a violent struggle.
According to officials, Panjwani punched one deputy in the face, pushed another into an elevator, and attempted to gouge a deputy’s eyes. He is also accused of spitting on one officer and trying to bite another.
Three deputies required hospital treatment but have since been released. Panjwani was taken into custody and charged with multiple felony counts, including aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest causing injury.
Panjwani is being held at the DuPage County Jail. His next court appearance is set for Oct. 6.
