CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There will be a lot of people praying about Tuesday’s elections and Loyola University is hosting a number of election events this week, including a virtual prayer service Monday afternoon.
With many students voting for the first time in a presidential election, Loyola’s Director of Campus Ministry Lori Riter said they’re offering several options to connect, including a zoom prayer service. This is the first election eve prayer service they’ve done at Loyola.
The Catholic university is not endorsing any presidential candidate in the zoom service, but more of a push for unity in divisive times.
"I think this is maybe the most polarizing campaign that I have ever witnessed, and I think we want to, especially in the midst of the pandemic, is also provide a way for people to come together," Rider said.
"We are really praying for unity that we as a human community here in the United States come together."
The school has been hosting voter registration drives and current events processing circles in the weeks leading up to the election. The university will also be holding a discussion on Election Night with a panel of Catholic experts on Zoom; and a wrap up session on Thursday.
