Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt, a beloved member of the Loyola University community and chaplain to the Loyola men's basketball team has died.

In 1970, she was named acting dean of all-women's Mundelein College. When Mundelein merged with Loyola University in 1991, Sister Jean became an assistant dean and academic advisor at Loyola.

Sister Jean was thrust into the international spotlight during the 2018 NCAA March Madness Tournament, traveling with the Ramblers to the Final Four for the first time since they won the National Championship in 1963.

In addition to her work with the Loyola men's basketball team, Sister Jean held weekly prayer groups for students and started a program that paired Loyola students with residents of an assisted living community on the university's Downtown Chicago Campus that she called home for years.

The university issued a statement Thursday night saying in part, "In many roles at Loyola over the course of more than 60 years, Sister Jean was an invaluable source of wisdom and grace for generations of students, faculty, and staff."

Sister Jean was inducted into the Loyola Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017.

Visitation and funeral arrangements will be in the coming days by the university.

Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt was 106 years old.
