CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A southwest suburban community is celebrating today after a high school student had her wish granted.

Maddie Wesolowski, who is a sophomore at Lemont High School, had always wanted a service dog for her visual impairment. When the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois found out, they found Cooper, a golden retriever who’s about 12 weeks old.

“She’s thinking ahead to the future and wants to be able to do a bunch of things on her own just like every other teenage girl,” Dr. Christi Flores, director of special education at Lemont High School, told WBBM Newsradio.

Maddie and Cooper got to meet a couple weeks ago and the community had a parade to celebrate.

The high school marching band, cheerleading squad and the dance team all played a role in making Maddie's day special.
