Man accused of drunk driving faces charges for crash that killed teacher

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Charges have been filed against a man accused of drunk driving in a crash that killed a longtime Wauconda High School teacher, according to the Cook County State Attorney's Office.

Authorities said 28-year-old Guillermo Salgado was traveling the wrong way when his vehicle struck the teacher’s car head-on.

It happened just after 2:00 a.m. on December 10 near Palatine Road and Wheeling Road in Wheeling.

Police said Salgado was speeding when his Toyota struck the Ford Edge driven by 53- year- old Robert Gillen, a math teacher and athletic trainer at Wauconda High.

Salgado is charged with reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence causing a fatal crash. He’ll be back in court in late January.
