(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 36-year-old Sauk Village man is facing felony charges after Will County Sheriff’s Deputies said they caught him stealing copper flower vases from a cemetery.
Deputies were called to Skyline Memorial Park and Crematory on Governor’s Highway in Monee Township on a report of theft.
There, they said they saw Peter Dobrzeniecki stacking 190 copper vases in a pile and that he had a duffel bag containing 12 vases.
He admitted he’d been stealing the vases for about the past eight months-60 to 90 on ten separate occasions.
Dobrzeniecki also admitted he’s been selling the vases to a local business for $15 dollars each, according to the sheriff's office.
People responding to the Sheriff’s Facebook post about this crime have pretty strong feelings.
One woman wrote that three vases have been stolen from the gravesite of her parents. Dobrzeniecki was charged with Felony Theft and Violation of the Cemetery Protection Act.
He also has two active warrants out of Cook County.
