CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Maywood man is now charged in the deadly shooting of a security guard on Chicago's West Side last week.

It was Friday afternoon when Chicago Police said 43-year-old Loyce Wright was fatally shot while working security at the Family Dollar Store in 5400 block of W. Chicago Avenue.

"He was simply at the store doing his job when his life was tragically taken from him," Chicago Police Superintendent  Larry Snelling said.

Snelling said the following day, on a tip, officers tracked down their suspect, 36-year-old  Rodgerick O'Neal, in Dolton. Police exchanged gunfire with O'Neal. No one was hurt, and O'Neal was taken into custody.

"There is no doubt in my mind if the Chicago Police Department, the Detective Division had not acted so swiftly, this individual would have acted out viciously again, and we would have had more victims," Snelling said.

Charges now include murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery against a police officer.
