Man faces felony charges after punching sheriff's deputy in face in unincorporated Libertyville

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man is now facing felony charges for punching a a Lake County Sheriff's Deputy in unincorporated Libertyville overnight.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department said deputies responded to a business at Bradley Road and Petronella Drive in unincorporated Libertyville just before 2 a.m. Friday morning for a possible domestic battery in progress.


According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, a caller said a man, who lived at the business, was attacking a female relative.

When deputies arrived, they said the man was aggressive, and while being detained, the man managed to punch one of the deputies in the face, causing a laceration to the deputy's face and causing the deputy's eyeglasses to break.

The man continued pushing both deputies, before they were able to restrain and handcuff Castro, the Lake County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The man identified as 33-year-old Christian Castro is facing two felony counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and criminal damage to property.

Sheriff's deputies located the woman and her baby and both were okay. Both deputies were also okay and did not require medical treatment.

Castro in custody at the Lake County jail pending an initial court hearing Friday morning.
