CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Bond was withheld from a North Side man after he allegedly falsified a police report regarding a shooting incident involving himself and a 3-year-old boy.

23-year-old Michael Howard-Owens appeared in court Wednesday for falsifying a police report along with three other felonies, the Chicago police said.

Howard-Owens and a 3-year-old boy were shot and wounded last Sunday afternoon in Englewood, at 66th and Stewart. The man initially told police an unknown suspect advanced toward him and him in the leg.

Police later learned Howard-Owens was "handling" a gun when it when accidently went off, striking him in the leg and the 3-year-old boy in the right foot, a department spokesperson said.

The boy was transported to Comer Children's Hospital in fair condition, while Howard-Owens was sent to Thorek Hospital in good condition.

Howard-Owens' next court appearance will be January 25.
