(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man has been sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of a Chicago Police Officer more than a decade ago.
Alexander Villa was one of three men convicted in the December, 2011 murder of Chicago Police officer Clifton Lewis, who was working as a security guard at a convenience store in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.
All charges were dropped against his two co-defendants just a few weeks ago amid allegations of misconduct by prosecutors and detectives.
Villa maintained his innocence after receiving the life sentence, with the Chicago Sun-Times reporting Villa promised to appeal, and gave condolences to Officer Lewis' family.
