CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A group of nearly 300 Illinois mayors is out with renewed calls for residents and business owners to take the second wave of COVID-19 seriously.
Joseph Tamburino is Mayor of the Village of Hillside and a key member of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus.
“Everyone has to understand that we’re at a very critical point in this fight with this pandemic,” he said. “If we don’t take the upper hand, it’s only going to get worse.”
The group is urging their residents to take extra steps over the next few weeks aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19, including wearing a face mask in public, avoiding non-essential travel, and limiting gatherings to no more than 10 people.
“It’s a serious, serious problem. We have to protect our young people, our older people, we have to protect everybody from this. We have to constantly drive home the message that it’s dangerous," Mayor Tamubrino said.
If things don’t turn around, Tamubrino admitted that more strict measures, such as a face mask mandate, could become reality.
