McHenry County to recount votes following 'some anomalies' Tuesday

Voting

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A vote recount will be taking place Thursday in McHenry County, due to "some anomalies" in Tuesday night’s vote count.

The McHenry County Clerk's Office was notified of the problem late Tuesday night. The clerk's office worked with its hardware and software vendor and determined that some races were "misreported" Tuesday night, according to a Facebook post.

McHenry County Democratic Party Chairwoman Kristina Zahorik said the party notified the clerk’s office of the problem with some strange things happening at at least three polling places in Cary.

“We had reports of people going in and voting and on the election results the candidates were showing they had no votes which, of course, can’t happen,” Zahorik told the Northwest Herald. “I mean even if they voted for themselves, they’d have a vote.”

Clerk Joe Tirio said the issue appears to be solely with paper ballots, not electronic ballots.

Tirio said the polling places where problems were reported will be recounted, and if need be, the entire county’s ballots will be.

Results are expected to be made public later Thursday.
