CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago is offering measles vaccinations at a migrant shelter in Pilsen after a second case was confirmed there Sunday.
Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez said he and Chicago Department of Public Health staffers were at the shelter on Halsted Sunday to offer and encourage new arrivals to get vaccinated.
His office said 13% of those at the shelter have not provided proof of the shot.
Chicago Public Health Commissioner Dr. Simbo Ige tweeted a message to all Chicagoans to get protected against the highly contagious disease.
CBS-2 reported many of the men staying at the shelter have hesitated to get the shot.
Those who get vaccinated can leave the shelter while those who opt-out must stay inside to be screened for symptoms.
