Metra commuter struck and killed by train

MIDLOTHIAN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Metra police are investigating after a man was fatally struck by a train at the Midlothian station.

The accident occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. at the Rock Island station at 3750 W. 147th St.,a Metra spokesperson said. The man was hit while running after the outbound train. The man had a ticket to board a train at the station, the spokesperson said.

The victim’s identity has to be released.

Metra’s investigation caused Rock Island trains to be shut down for nearly an hour.

As of 10 a.m., delay times of up to 40 minutes existed.
