CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Metra, along with CTA and Pace have announced a new pass that will allow residents to have unlimited rides on all of the three systems, as the Chicago area transit systems attempt to incentivize ridership.
They call it the “Regional Connect Pass” and will cost $30 a month. It will be available to those who own an unlimited ride Metra monthly pass. The new product will enable unlimited rides for an entire month on both CTA and Pace, no matter the time or day. The Regional Connect Pass replaces CTA’s Link-Up Pass, which was $55 a month, and Pace’s PlusBus Pass, which cost $30 a month.
The Regional Connect Pass will be sold with Metra’s new “Super Saver” monthly pass, which was introduced last week. Metra said they will start issuing the $100 a month Super Saver Pass in July, as part of a three month pilot program. Thus, during the summer period, residents can have unlimited access to Metra, Pace, and CTA for $130 a month.
According to Metra Communications Michael Gillis, Metra ridership is now at 40% of pre-pandemic levels.
