Metra Rock Island service delayed after pedestrian accident

MIDLOTHIAN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Metra shut down the Rock Island line for nearly an hour after a train struck a pedestrian.

The accident occurred in the 7 a.m. hour near Midlothian. Metra stopped both inbound and outbound mainline train traffic until a little after 8:30 a.m.

Inbound service has resumed but only on one track. Heavy delays will linger, Metra says, with trains running up to 50 minutes behind schedule.

Outbound service is still stopped.

It is not yet known the condition of the pedestrian who was hit.
