CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Technical issues are giving morning Metra commuters a headache this morning as a number of changes are taking place on the commuter rail system today.

Metra’s new fare structure has taken effect, but some commuters are reporting they’re having issues purchasing their February monthly passes via the Ventra app.

Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said the agency is on the case.

“We are aware of the issue, and we’re working on it,” Gillis said. “We’ve alerted our customers that there is an issue.

The agency said conductors have been notified, and they’re allowing passengers to ride until the issue is resolved.

Today marked the beginning of several changes for Metra. It included the reduction of fare zones and elimination of ten-ride tickets and ticket windows.
