(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- "Tu Mexico, Tu Chicago," is the theme for this year's parade.

"We are focusing on this as our theme because Little Village is seen in Chicago as a little bit of Mexico, a little piece of Mexico here in the city. And we wanted to, to showcase this through the theme in the parade and more specifically to showcase the culture of Mexico."

Jennifer Aguilar with the Little Village Chamber of Commerce said participants are doing this by decorating their floats to represent a certain state in Mexico.

"They can, you know, showcase the state, dance or the state's food or The flower, whatever it is that they feel best represents the state of their choosing."

She said Jalisco, Michoacán, and Puebla are among the states being represented, and that she's expecting near 500,000 attendees.

"I always say that Little Village on the day of the parade is it that's the best day where for visitors to come, because it just looks so beautiful and you can feel the celebration and the happiness of everybody who is in attendance."

The parade will take place on Mexican Independence Day on September 16.
