GURNEE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The mother of a teenage boy, at the center of a viral video taken at a Gurnee theme park, is speaking out in defense of her son.
The video uploaded to TikTok showed the 14-year-old boy in line for a ride at Six Flags Great America with what appeared to be black makeup, covering his face. He was asked about it by another person in line and responded by asking if they like it. The teen claimed his face paint got messed up.
The boy’s mother is now publicly defending her son and backing his story. She told the Daily Herald he and his friends used eye black sport makeup to paint their faces like zombies and he did not mean to be offensive. She also denied allegations that her son air dropped a racist meme to the person who filmed the TikTok.
The woman told the paper her son, a student at Grant High School in Fox Lake, is now attending classes online after receiving death threats, and that the incident has “spiraled out of control.”
