CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- New Braille and raised-letter signs are coming to CTA bus lines.
This will add accessible Braille and raised-letter signage along two additional bus routes this spring. The signs are designed to make stops easier to identify for riders who are blind or suffer from low vision.
The signs will be for the #3 King Drive and #82 Kimball/Homan bus lines. They were selected by an advisory committee that includes the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities.
Since the program’s initial launch last August, more than 1,300 tactile signs have been added. Each route selected is based on factors, including proximity to blind services and hospitals, and ridership demographics.
The CTA’s plan is to add more and more signage through the year 2038.
