(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — There is little interest from parents and members of the community in being part of their Local School Councils, so Chicago Public Schools system is extending the deadline for candidates to apply.
The original deadline to apply to run for a local school council was the end of this week. But fewer than 1,300 people have applied to fill 6,200 LSC positions, officials said.
CPS is is extending the application deadline until next Wednesday.
LSC members help shape their local schools by mapping out budgets, selecting principals and approving the school-based academic plans. Elections are at the end of next month.
