CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police said 55 people were wounded in shootings over the Labor Day weekend, including nine who were killed.
In his weekly crime press conference, Supt. David Brown discussed two issues vexing the department: violence on the CTA and street takeovers.
He said on Sunday officers arrested 31-year-old Marvin Floyd, a convicted felon who was loading a gun on the CTA Red Line.
“We’re starting to see more and more proactive policing on our transit system,” Brown said. “We need more — we’re not satisfied.”
The department said it has identified even more cars wanted for drifting and drag racing and added that 43 are eligible to be impounded. Brown said he wants to go after spectators next.
“Other cities have done this, and we think it’s been very effective in a couple other cities we’ve talked with,” Brown said. “So, the spectators should be the next thing on our list of things to amend for the ordinance.”
Brown said the number of shootings and victims are down compared to Labor Day last year.
