In 2025, 54-percent of residents relocating were moving out of Illinois, while 46-percent were moving in.

That's according to the annual Migration Patterns Study released this week by the moving company Atlas Van Lines.

The study says the last time Illinois wasn’t losing residents overall to other states or countries was the year 2008.

The study says the top states that people are moving into are Arkansas and Idaho.
