(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – WBBM Newsradio’s Rachel Pierson has the latest roundup of weekend events.
--Take in the sights of Chicago’s shoreline during The Lakefront Loop 5K. Saturday’s race is contained entirely on Navy Pier, bringing runners along the iconic North and South Docks. Proceeds support Navy Pier’s non-profit mission to offer dynamic arts and cultural experiences for the community.
--Also at Navy Pier, celebrate Cinco de Mayo during Mexico Fest. More than 30 Mexican artisans and performers will form a “mercadito” (marketplace), plus you’ll find free performances by Mexican musicians and dancers and workshops for children.
--You’ve seen the DC box office smash “The Batman.” Now experience the Caped Crusader like never before. The Chicago Philharmonic takes over the Auditorium Theatre for “The Batman in Concert” as they perform the original score alongside the film.
--Why not ‘wine down’ this weekend? The 17th annual Andersonville Wine Walk lets you sip and shop your way through the North Side neighborhood with two curated wine routes.
--Calling all dog owners! Bring your furry friend to the Morton Arboretum on Sunday for Tails on the Trails. The dog-friendly event lets guests explore 16 miles of trails and connect with pet vendors and organizations.
--In Elmhurst, “Art in Wilder Park,” the first outdoor festival of the season, showcases over 125 exhibitors, including a new public art installation, “Superheroes in Wilder Park.” You’ll find life-sized superhero sculptures created by area artists and youth groups scattered throughout the park.
--Families and foodies alike will find plenty of tasty eats at the Naperville Food Truck Festival. Hosted at Naper Settlement, this weekend’s lineup includes more than 25 of the area’s best food trucks, live entertainment, face painting and even a mega bubble artist.
