An update on the number of allegations of child sexual abuse at juvenile detention facilities in Illinois.
More than 900 cases have now been filed arising from child sexual abuse at State-operated Illinois Youth Centers and the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center.
107 new cases were filed on July 15th, 2025 alone.
"How many people need to come forward before you take it seriously," says Jerry Block, partner at Levy Konigsberg LLP.
Attorney General Kwame Raoul recently filed a new motion to dismiss, arguing that the survivors were required to come forward before turning 19.
"These children are completely traumatized," Block said, "But they were somehow supposed to come forward before they turn 19?"
Child sexual assault survivor Chris detailed what needs to change.
"Change is going to these facilities, talking to these kids while they're in the facilities, being more of a voice for our community. Change is anything, as long as it's getting better, not worse."
