New year brings rash of bank robberies in Chicago, suburbs

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Bank robbers struck Chicago and two suburbs Monday as financial institutions reopened after the New Year’s holiday weekend.

The FBI reported three robberies: in west suburban Woodridge; south suburban Homewood and Chicago's Gold Coast.

The first incident occurred around 10 a.m. at the BMO Harris Bank at 2413 75th Street in Woodridge. A masked suspect demanded money by handing over a note, the FBI said.

The second robbery occurred less than an hour later, authorities said. A suspect entered a BMO branch at 17600 S. Hasted in Homewood and also demanded a money through a note; he also reportedly inferred he had a weapon.

The last bank robbery, in Chicago, occurred around 1:15 p.m. at the PNC Bank at 873 N. Rush St. A suspect presented a note demanded money and implying a weapon, the FBI said.

It wasn’t clear if any of the incidents were related.
