(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The 43-year-old owner of Chicago’s Spybar nightclub has been charged with multiple felonies after he was accused of trying to smuggle what the Cook County Sheriff’s Office described as “substantial amounts” of drugs into Chicago.

Authorities said Dino Gardiakos was arrested a little after 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday after officers at O’Hare Airport found in his luggage nearly 14 pounds of a powdery substance that tested positive for ketamine as well as nearly 6 grams of ecstasy.

Gardiakos was taken to the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Headquarters for further questioning, where officials said he admitted to purchasing 6 kilograms of ketamine, which he said was for both personal use and for sale in the Chicago area.

Investigators said Gardiakos claimed he purchased the drugs from a person in London, who supposedly told him how to conceal the drugs and get them past O’Hare customs agents.

At the time of his arrest, Gardiakos was on probation for felony drug offenses.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved multiple felony charges. After a court appearance on Thursday, Gardiakos was released on pretrial adult probation services.
