Nineteen people from diverse backgrounds apply for 24th ward vacancy on West Side

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --Nineteen people with diverse backgrounds have applied for the chance to have Mayor Lightfoot select them as 24th Ward alderman to fill the vacancy left by former Alderman Michael Scott.

Pest control company owner and former Chicago Bull Wallace “Mickey” Johnson, Chicago police officers Roger Washington and Matthew Jackson and hotel loss prevention supervisor Jose de Hernan are among those hoping to replace Michael Scott as 24th Ward alderman.

Two people named Scott are also on the list of applicants: firearms instructor and barber Creative Scott and city park supervisor Monique Scott.

Charles Rice, current chief of staff to the former alderman and Trina Mangrum, chief of staff to 28th Ward alderman Jason Ervin would also like the mayor’s nod.

Among the more unique resume items is from Chicago fire lieutenant Drewone Goldsmith who is also president of the Historic Route 66 Classic Car Show.

—Christopher Griffin: producer for the Rainbow PUSH Coalition

—Deyki Nichols: Chicago Public Schools Dean and Athletic director at Sumner Math and Science Academy

—Drewone Goldsmith: Chicago Fire Department lieutenant, former U.S. Marine, and Historic Route 66 Classic Car Show president

—Edward Ward: CPS program coordinator

—Larry Nelson: staffer for Congresman Danny Davis’ staff

—Jose De Hernan: loss prevention supervisor at JW Marriott

—Matthew Jackson: Chicago police officer since 1994; Professor of English at Wilber Wright College since 1991

—Marvin Sykes

—Mia Bridges: a controlled substance inspector

—Monique Scott: Chicago Park District park supervisor who did volunteer work for former Alderman Scott.

—Patricia Davis: CEO of Unique Casework Installations

—Roger Washington: Chicago police officer and former 24th Ward aldermanic candidate

—Sondra Spellman-Epps: watchman for the City of Chicago

—Steve Robinson: security officer at Northwestern Medicine’s Orland Park facility, former suburban police officer and CPS teacher

—Trina Mangrum: chief of staff for 28th Ward Alderman Jason Irvin

—Vetress Boyce: business person

—Wallace “Mickey” Johnson: pest control company owner and former NBA player
