(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Village of East Dundee has approved a five percent amusement tax on streaming services.

East Dundee is now one of the first northwest suburbs to add the entertainment fee. Chicago did it in 2015. Evanston has a similar tax.

It’s a move to off-set village revenue lost as customers drop cable. Village Trustee Sarah Brittin wonders how this plays out with so many services, considering all if the five percent tax is enough.

"Only curious because those of us that have cut the cord usually have about four streaming services," she said.

Not everyone on the East Dundee board believes in the tax, some call it unfair because the village is putting a tax on a service it has nothing to do with providing.

"We're not providing a service here," said Village Trustee Scott Kunze. "We're just saying that we're missing money that we use to get from cable and now it's gong to streaming instead, but we're not providing the streaming."
