(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man from northwest suburban Arlington Heights is in the record books for helping to capture a huge python in Florida.

The daring, and somewhat disturbing capture happened in the early morning hours of July 10.

The video of the capture was supplied to the Chicago Sun-Times and shows a group of passionate python hunters, who caught a female Burmese python which was slithering across a road. The python is 19 feet, 125 pounds, officially the longest ever documented in Florida.

One of those seen cursing and capturing the monster-like creature on the video is recent Ohio State graduate Andrew Sokolowski who told the Sun-Times it's incredible that such a creature even exists.

The Burmese pythons are an invasive species in Florida and wildlife experts say they “compete with native wildlife for food."

Apparently that's why the creatures are hunted. In their hurry to yank the snake out of the road to avoid a fast-approaching car, the hunters broke the creature’s neck.

The dead python was then brought to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida.
