(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Northwestern University has dropped its COVID-19 testing requirement for students and staff this new academic year.

The university said it will continue to require COVID vaccinations for all of its students and staff, and officials added 98% of those people are vaccinated.

Northwestern staff and students who already had vaccination exemptions will remain exempt, and the university said weekly COVID tests are no longer required.

Through the rest of 2022, Northwestern said it will continue to provide isolation housing for students who test positive for COVID-19.

For flexibility’s sake, though, those who teach in-person will be allowed to teach up to 10% of their classes virtually.

Northwestern said it will continue to recommend masking.
