EVANSTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A deadly shooting near the campus of Northwestern University this week is prompting students to demand the administration communicate better with them when incidents like that happen.

A young Skokie man was killed, two other teens wounded just south of the Northwestern campus this week, but students said it took about 30 minutes before administrators alerted everyone on campus and told them to stay put.

According to the Sun-Times, hundreds of students have signed a petition demanding better communications with them in the future.

Northwestern administrators acknowledge there was too long a delay in ordering people to shelter-in-place.

The university plans to look for better ways to communicate more quickly.
