(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Northwestern University’s School of Law is helping to launch a joint effort to champion social justice and equity nationwide.
Northwestern is among leading U.S. law schools that will be part of what Cindy Wilson, a director at Northwestern’s Bluhm Legal Clinic, said will be the Social Justice Legal Foundation.
With funding from the law firm of Hueston Hennigan, Northwestern Law and five other top law schools are setting up the Foundation.
Wilson says they’ll pursue trial work that advances social justice. It’s too early to predict what cases will be handled, but she suggested they will involve issues like economic inequality, voting rights and housing discrimination.
The effort will also be educational because law students will help with the litigation. On top of that, Wilson said, fellowships will be awarded to five law students to help with the work.
