Off-Duty Officer, Armed Man Exchange Gunfire In West Town

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An off-duty Chicago police officer exchanged gunfire Tuesday with an armed person in West Town.

According to police, the off-duty officer, who was driving in his vehicle, was at a stop sign at about 9:40 p.m. when he saw a male with a handgun get out of a silver sedan in the 700 block of North Noble Street.

The officer announced himself, “at which time an exchange of gunfire occurred,” according to police.

No injuries were reported, though the officer’s vehicle was damaged, the Sun-Times reported. The male with the handgun got back in the sedan and fled.

Area Three detectives are investigating.
