MCHENRY COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Investigators in McHenry County say deadly force was justified in the fatal police shooting of a suspect in Harvard.

On June 3, Harvard police say 33-year-old Daniel Alvarado-Aguilar fatally stabbed 24-year-old Elizabeth Alvarado-Garcia more than 40 times with a large knife after accusing her of cheating on him, and then stabbed himself in the chest.

Alvarado-Garcia died from her injuries.

When officers arrived at the scene, they pulled Alvarado-Aguilar off his victim. He dropped the knife, but picked it up again, and that's when Sergeant Trent Tobias shot him to death.

The McHenry County State's Attorney's Office said after reviewing the evidence including body camera footage (graphic content), investigators concluded Tobias' use of deadly force was justified.
